An impressive showing, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series is deep garnet-purple in color with menthol, dried herbs, creme de cassis and black forest cake notes. The palate possesses a medium to full-body with good concentration and a firm, chewy structure and great freshness, finishing long and pure.

Family owned, Leeuwin Estate, one of the five founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district of Western Australia, is under the direction of two generations who work with a team of highly skilled winemakers to consistently produce wines ranking alongside the world’s finest. In 1972, legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard as being ideal for the production of premium wine and provided early mentorship to Denis and Tricia Horgan in the transformation of their cattle farm into Leeuwin Estate. Enjoying its first vintage in 1979, Leeuwin was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1981 “Art Series” Chardonnay. The international accolades have continued, and the grand cru quality 2012 Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon at £47/bottle inc VAT is very impressive drinking.
20% hand-picked, 80% machine-harvested, destemmed, cultured yeast, matured for 21 months in French oak (40% new). The headline, the main text and the footnotes all say one thing and one thing only: purity. And I suppose I should add elegance. They simply don’t come better in this mode.

This is a linear and beautiful wine as always with currant, floral, and mint. Full body, with reserve and intensity. A truly excellent wine. Give it years. But love now.
