2013 Louis Jadot Domaine des Heritiers Clos des Couchereaux, Beaune Premier Cru

The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux has a fragrant and the most floral bouquet compared to Jadot’s fellow 2013 Beaune crus, with touches of orange sorbet and fresh raspberries developing nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly stringy tannins at the moment, the acidity nicely judged and showing fine focus on the elegant finish. Excellent. (NM)

Louis Jadot was established in Beaune by founder Louis-Henry Jadot in 1859. They have carefully striven to establish and maintain the quality of their wines for 160 years through the steady acquisition of the best vineyards in Burgundy. For the past 20 years Louis Jadot has worked with an organic and biodynamic style of viticulture and a viticultural philosophy of minimal intervention. In addition, the nursery has expanded the breadth and diversity of the available vine material and uses a traditional ‘field selection’ from their own vines. In the vineyard all work is done either by tractor, or for the more inaccessible sites, by horse.

From one of the rare south-facing vineyards in Beaune, this warm, rich and ripe wine is generous with its spice, smokiness and rounded red fruits. Acidity cuts through, bringing raspberry in its wake. The sense of structure really gives this wine its power and density. Drink from 2020.
