Aromas of cherries and strawberries mingle with hints of licorice and spices, introducing the 2017 Morgon Corcelette, a medium to full-bodied, layered wine that’s fleshy and gourmand, with ripe acids and a generous core of fruit but displays a firmer chassis of powdery tannin than the Eponym this year. It was hit hard by hail, but Foillard has crafted a terrific wine all the same.
Wine Advocate
Jean Foillard and his wife Agnes became the proprietors of Jean’s family vineyard in 1980. The 35-acre domaine has parcels outside of Villié-Morgan. Foillard carefully tends his old vines, banning all herbicides and pesticides, harvesting late and taking a very minimalist approach in the cellar. The results are incredible and fine. The pricing is for drinking every day.

Brilliant violet. A powerful, mineral-accented bouquet evokes ripe red/dark berries, potpourri and allspice, and a floral nuance builds in the glass. Bright, sappy and appealingly sweet, offering concentrated black raspberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors that tighten up slowly with aeration. Shows impressive depth as well as energy and closes smooth, mineral and very long, leaving a sexy floral note behind.
