2016 Chateau Fonreaud Listrac-Medoc (12*75cl)

“Fonréaud”, formerly “Font-réaux”, means “Royal Fountain”. During the twelfth century, the King of England and the husbands of Eleanor d’Aquitaine, stopped to drink at a fresh spring. Today, Jean Chanfreau, accompanied by his wife Marie-Hélène, his sister Caroline Chanfreau-Philippon, his niece Marion and his two sons, Guillaume and Loïc live this vineyard with passion. Like an amphitheater, the vineyard faces the château. Its vineyards occupy the highest point of the Medoc (43 m) and its gravelly slopes. A Mosaic of gravelly soils resting on an Oligocene clay-limestone base, depending on their nature, the different soils are planted in traditional Médoc grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, the grape variety of deep and dry soils, Merlot, planted on slightly more nutritive soils and Petit Verdot, comfortable on warm soils. 93/100 Wine Advocate
